If Humanity is Designed Then The Designer is a Dick!

The human body, although brilliant in so many ways, has so many flaws and so many oddities that the concept of design is laughable. I’m just going to point out a few characteristics of the human body which make me think if there was a designer he’s* a dick:

1. The shape of the human spine - The human spine is not optimal for creatures that walk upright, this leads to massive back problems that plague millions of people.

2. The appendix- A completely unnecessary appendage that runs the risk of becoming infected which can lead to immense pain and, without surgery, death.

3. The position of the oesophagus and trachia - The adjoining positions of these two tracts leads to the death of about 2,500 people a year.

4. DNA replication - Although it is due to errors in DNA replication (mutations) that allow evolution to function, it is also the cause of several horrific genetic diseases and cancer.

5. Immune systems - Our immune system is amazing, yet easily confused. There are literally hundreds of different diseases caused by the immune system attacking the body.

6. Male genitalia - One of the most sensitive and vital (for the propagation of our species) organs on the body…and it’s located on the exterior of the body where it is susceptible to damage.

Oddly enough evolution explains pretty much all our odd little flaws as a species, design does not. This is a massively incomplete list (for more examples from humans and other species go here) however I think it’s enough to make the point that the body is not well designed, and therefore, if there is a designer…he’s a dick!

*I use the term he as this is the usual portrayal in most monotheistic religions.
